Falling Oaks Swim Club - Medina Ohio - Swim Lessons

Lessons

Thank you for your interest in taking swim lessons with Falling Oaks this summer.  All swim lesson registration opens May 3rd, 2023 at 6 PM.  Information below is for 2023

All registration and payments will be electronic ONLY. Information regarding the different types of swim lessons, pricing, ages, levels, dates, and times can be found below. Please email fohaswimlessons@gmail.com with any additional questions. We hope to see you this summer!

Please note:  You are only permitted to participate in either group swim lessons OR private swim lessons. No child is permitted to participate in group lessons in addition to private lessons, even if they do not occur at the same time. You may sign up for as many sessions/lessons as you wish, however, if your child is admitted into lessons, you will be removed from any other lists you submitted. Please do not sign up for group swim lessons that do not work with your schedule simply to increase your chances of being admitted. This will not be effective.

If you are admitted into swim lessons and would like to forfeit your spot in order to maintain your place for a different session or private lessons, that is your choice. Please notify your instructor immediately if you wish to withdraw from a list in order to maintain your status in another.

Private Lessons

In an effort to accept as many families as possible, this summer we will be prioritizing our pool members. For every two member families we accept, we will accept one non-member family. Regardless of your membership status, we cannot guarantee admittance for private swim lessons this summer. However, members are at an advantage. Your membership must be submitted and paid for in full prior to signing up for the members-only private swim lessons list, otherwise, your submission will not be considered.

There are separate private swim lesson registration forms for members and non-members. Please fill out the correct form. The only reason you should fill out both forms is if your membership status changes after completion. We will be cross referencing our member list prior to contacting each family, so be sure your membership is submitted and paid for in full prior to completion to avoid being removed from the list.

The child you are signing up for swim lessons MUST BE ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP FORM. This child must be included in your family membership, and be living at the listed residence. He/she cannot be signed up under a friend/relative who is a FOHA member.

  • Member cost: $20 per lesson
  • Non member cost: $30 per lesson
  • Additional children in the same household are $5 per lesson, with a max of three children.

    • We offer private swim lessons to any child 1.5 years of age or older, within reason
    • If admitted, you will be contacted to schedule lessons that work with your availability as well as the instructors
    • You can pay online AFTER you are contacted by your instructor, and BEFORE your first scheduled swim lesson. Do not pay for swim lessons until you have been contacted by a swim lessons instructor confirming your lessons
    • Please understand that swim lessons are in high demand. Private swim lessons are taken on a first-come-first-serve basis, with the best interest of our pool members in mind.
  • Submitting the below forms DOES NOT automatically confirm or enroll your child for swim lessons this summer, it simply puts them on our waitlist to be contacted when we have the instructor availability

Group Lessons

In an effort to accept as many families as possible, this summer we will be prioritizing our pool members. In regards to group lessons, FOHA members who sign up between May 3rd at 6pm and May 5th at 6pm will be added to the swim lesson session rosters prior to non-members. After May 5th at 6pm, any remaining slot will be filled by members and non-members in the chronological order in which they signed up. If a signup link is “closed” when you click on it, it is because the roster is full for that session.

Since there are only three scheduled sessions of group swim lessons this summer, children are only permitted to attend one session. You may sign up for multiple sessions to increase the chance of admittance, however, you will be removed from other lists if your child is admitted into an earlier session. Signing up for any or all sessions does not guarantee admittance. Members and non-members will register on the same form for their desired session (linked below). The child you are signing up for swim lessons MUST BE ON YOUR MEMBERSHIP FORM. This child must be included in your family membership, and be living at the listed residence. He/she cannot be signed up under a friend/relative who is a FOHA member.

    • Member cost: $75 per child
    • Non-member cost: $90 per child
    • You will be notified via email regarding whether or not your child made the group swim lesson session roster at least one week prior to the start date of the session
    • Group lessons must have at least 4 children in order to be held and have a maximum of 10 children
    • Please read the level descriptions listed at the bottom of this page to sign up your child for the appropriate level of swim lessons
  • Do not pay until you receive a confirmation email
  • If you pay (meaning you received a confirmation email and have been allotted a spot) and do not show/ do not notify before the first day of classes, you are only eligible for a 50% refund
  • Please pay attention to the dates of the classes listed below. You may sign up if you cannot attend all classes in the session, however, you are still required to pay the full amount.
  • Group lesson age requirement is typically 4 years old or older
  • If you have any questions, please send an email to fohaswimlessons@gmail.com

Swim Levels

LEVEL 1:

Objective: help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely.

Learn to float, kick, use arm movements, etc. with help of the instructor

No previous swim lesson experience needed

LEVEL 2:

To enter level two students must first have passed level one or be able to demonstrate the skills needed to pass level one.

Students learn to float without support and to recover to a vertical position

Students explore alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back which lays the foundation for future strokes.

LEVEL 3:

To enter level three students must first have passed level two or be able to demonstrate the skills needed to pass level two

Students will learn to coordinate the front crawl and back crawl

Introduce elements of breaststroke, diving, and treading water

LEVEL 4:

To enter level four students must first have passed level three or be able to demonstrate the skills needed to pass level three

Objective: to develop confidence in the strokes learned in previous levels and increase their endurance by swimming greater distances.

Introduce the elementary backstroke, butterfly and elements of the sidestroke

Helpful tips when deciding on your child’s level…

Level 1: approximate ages 4-6

Level 2: approximate ages 7-9

Level 3: approximate ages 10-11

Level 4: approximate ages 11-13

*Level 1 children must be able to sit on the edge of the pool by themselves in front of the instructors*

*Level 2 children will not excel if they are fearful of trying to swim without the instructor. If your child is unwilling to get in, get out, jump in, or push off the wall without an instructor’s immediate help, they should be kept in level 1*

*If your child does not have the stamina or is fearful of swimming across the pool by themselves they should be in level 2, not levels 3 or 4*

*Level 3 and Level 4 classes often involve out-of-water instruction, meaning the instructor is not always in the water with the students. This is because levels 3 and 4 begin to learn new strokes that are better observed or critiqued from an above-water view. Please keep this in mind when deciding which level to place your child in*”
